How Do I Find Joy In My Life?
A few months ago I started asking myself how do I bring joy to my life? I was feeling down on my luck because all of my hard work on CrazyFitnessGuy felt like it was going all to waste. My traffic has plummeted with no hope for a rebound.
I Lost My Joy (A True Story)
I honestly could have thrown everything away and left it at that. But I have learned from the Martial Arts there will be challenges off and on the mat. If I was going to throw away my business and my brand I might as well walk away from Karate.
There is no way I could face my Sensei or my Joshu. They have taught me to have a stronger mindset and discipline than the average person. I felt so ashamed for having these kinds of thoughts. I was down, frustrated, sad, etc. You name it I probably felt that.
Just watching my website readers tank was a kick and multiple punches to the stomach. I felt so discouraged I decided to stop writing on my website. If this is your first time here on CrazyFitnessGuy website go to June of 2022 and that was my last new blog post. There is a big time gap missing because I had no motivation to write on the website during those months. I decided to keep putting out content but in a different way.
So I dedicated a few months just to my podcast which brought me some joy and some rough patches. But I continued to see results and gains. While going through this rough patch I remembered I have been down this path a long time ago. Back then it took me years just to get out of my funk.
It's Not The First Time I Lost My Joy
I am no stranger to feeling down and out with depression. When I was younger in elementary all the way to 11th grade in high school I was bullied. I was called names, had my neck slapped repetitively, and grew up in a school system that wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.
Looking back at it no wonder why I fell into depression and despair. Only my close group of people including my friends knew how I really felt. But one of the things that helped me to combat those negative things around me was playing video games all hour. Which was totally unhealthy but it was my escape.
When I came home crying because the bullies were too tough to handle, I came home and watched Avatar The Last Airbender. So while those months I was feeling depressed and down and out about losing views, income, etc. I reminded myself I am in a slump and not in the same situation as back in public school.
Where To Find Joy In Life?
I kept pondering to myself over those few months of not posting new articles to my website. Where oh where can I find joy in continuing to create articles that people actually want to read?
I know that Avatar The Last Airbender and iCarly made me happy. But I know I can't watch my favorite shows every single time I am feeling upset or frustrated etc. If I allowed that to happen it would start with one episode and eventually go into 3 and 4. Perhaps even binge-watching it all together.
Not very long ago I met a colleague in one of my Facebook groups that I am a part of. She likes talking about joy a lot. Not too long ago she published her first book called Discover Your Joy.
The Book That Saved Me (Discover Your Joy)
I read Louise Pistole Discover Your Joy book just a few months ago from start to finish during the rough months of not posting new articles. I needed to discover what brought me joy so I have that to look forward to when I am feeling down.
At first, when I picked up the book my mind started to play games with me and started telling you don't need this book. I told my mind to shut up because I needed it for my own mental health. I found some pretty helpful tips in this book.
Not every idea resonated with me in this book because Louise wrote it from her perspective and what brings her Joy. But what I really liked about the book is that it gives actionable tips at the bottom of each page.
It gave me a lot of stuff to think about. It all went back to the same question I asked myself earlier. How do I bring Joy to my life, and what brought me Joy? These actionable tips and tricks added a part two. But now that I had the words right in front of me in the book I decided to actually think about it instead of pondering it in my head.
What Brings Me Joy?
Want to know what I discovered? I discovered that a lot of things made make me happy. I haven't really given myself the time or the place to allow joy into my life. This is the list I have come up with that brings me joy in my life:
- Video games
- Watching various streaming services with my favorite shows
- Appearing as guests on other people's podcasts
- Listening to music
- Going up to karate earlier just to chill before class
- Reading books
- Learning something new
- Listening to podcasts
- Watching movies
- Hanging out with friends
- Hanging out with Family
- Working out
- Accomplishing goals
10 Ways To Experience Joy Again
- Write in a journal
- Listen to crazy fitness guy podcast

- Watch your favorite movie
- Read a book
- Play with your pets
- Play some video games
- Go on a vacation

Finding joy shouldn't be hard but we tend to make it harder than it really is.
