I am Patricia Prince, certified health coach, guest blogger on Crazy Fitness Guy, and a mother with two beautiful adult children.  I know how hard moms work to look after their families, often at the sacrifice of themselves.  They cook, clean, and manage the household.  A lot of mothers also work part-time or full-time jobs outside the home.  They seem to do it all, taking on the roles of tutor, driver, cook, nurse, cleaner, organizer, launderer, planner, and so much more.

Mothers are the glue that holds a family together, providing both moral and emotional support.  She deserves an exceptional Mothers Day at least once a year to just unwind. She should spend this one day practicing a little self-care.  So, help her make her day as special as you can.

1.Get Your Mum a Thoughtful Gift

The thing about mothers is that they usually love anything you gift to them. You can't go wrong with a gift.  But, this year, put some careful thought into what your mother means to you. 

Of course, flowers or a card are most appreciated. But maybe think a little harder than these traditional gifts. What would help your mom relax and focus on her health for at least one day?  Get her THAT gift.

2. Make Your Mother Breakfast in Bed

Give her a break from the kitchen.  Make her a special and healthy breakfast.  You know what your mom likes to eat, so make her a favorite breakfast. 


Perhaps a bowl of fruit, yogurt, and granola?  Or maybe a little oatmeal with applesauce, dates and chopped nuts?  Make a healthy pancake recipe and serve it with some homemade blueberry sauce. Or a beautifully healthy smoothie bowl might do the trick.  I am sure you will find some healthy breakfast ideas that your mom will love. 


Don’t forget to add a special touch to the breakfast tray.  Perhaps add a personalized note about what your mom means to you.  You could also add a single flower in a nice vase.  Or, perhaps, serve her coffee or tea in a pretty, new cup?

I will bet that one of your mother’s favorite things to do is to spend time with family.  A family picnic in a park or backyard is a wonderful way to relax and enjoy each other’s company. But don’t you let her lift a finger to help. 


Pack a picnic basket or fire up that BBQ grill and do it all for her.  The only thing she should be doing is putting her feet up, enjoying a glass of flavored spa water or a perfectly steeped herbal tea, and enjoying her visit with your siblings and her grandchildren.

A gift certificate to a local spa for a day of pampering is a great idea.  It is even more special if you go with her so she can enjoy your company too.  Book the appointment for both of you to get manicures, pedicures, massage, or other spa treatments to make her feel special.

Take her out for a delicious meal at her favorite restaurant.  A new restaurant that she has never been to is also an exciting option.  Then, perhaps, choose a funny or lighthearted movie that you both can enjoy together. 


Alternatively, you could make her a healthy home-cooked meal and stream a fabulous movie online.  This can be equally special, if not more so.  Putting in the effort to cook her a delicious and nutritious meal is a fabulous way to show how much you care.

9.  Do A Craft or DIY Project Together

What does your mom like to do with her spare time if she had some?  Does she like to paint?  Is she into gardening?  Show some interest in the things she likes to do and plan a day around them.
