The Worse Advice We've Ever Heard During Bully Awareness Month

Bully Awareness Month

How Does Bullying Start?

Bullying can start by teasing one another. Many of my friends and family like to mess with one another because we joke with each other. Plus we know when to stop. Bullies, on the other hand, keep going to hurt you emotionally.

Kids can start becoming bullies at a very young age. Some kids when they are younger like to claim their territory around a playground. Bullies also don't like sharing things with others. Some bullies then start acting aggressive to others and may start beating up other kids. They also might call them names and start taunting them.

Why Does Bullying Start?

When they were growing up they had a rough childhood. Their parents could of abused them physically or verbally. Perhaps they started hanging out with the wrong group of kids, which can lead to bad things. These bad things can include stealing, gangs, drugs, and other illegal activities.

How Does Bullying Affect Your Health?

Bullying can affect your health in many different ways. One of the ways can be emotional which can cause depression. When one is depressed they may start thinking about suicidal thoughts. Being bullied can also cause stress.

Another way that being bullied can affect your health is physical. They can break your arms, and legs, and can leave bruises on your body or cuts.

How Does Bullying Affect Education?

I know when I was bullied I hate going to school. In the morning I didn't want to take the bus. Some people’s grades drop because they stop showing up to school, fortunately, my grades did not.

Others might take their anger out on other people who work in the school. These people include principals, counselors, and teachers. I know that I went that route.

At the time I didn't understand why I burned a lot of bridges with teachers, principals, and other staff. But now looking back at it I was looking for help but I didn't know how to ask for it. The bullies made me feel like it was a sign of weakness.

How Does Bullying Effect Society?

In my opinion, bullying can have a very bad effect on everyone. Bullies can be at work, college, and in other schools. These bullies could harm people anywhere.

What Are The Different Types Of Bullying?

There are four different types of bullying they include:

  • physical - pushing, shoving, punching, or kicking

  • verbal - name-calling

  • social bullying -

  • cyberbullying - online bullying in a game or on social media

A True Underdog Story About Bullying

As you know I have been bullied in middle school and in high school. But that's not where it started. I started getting bullied in elementary school on the bus.

First, it started with two girls who wouldn't stop kicking my seat on the bus. Then later it continued with two twin boys who asked me a lot of questions about certain topics that I didn't know.

If You Are Getting Bullied What Do You Do?

According to WebMD, they say you should never confront a bully. Unfortunately, you may not have another option. Some principals may be clueless to the fact that there are bullies in their school.

In my opinion, confronting the bullies was one of the best things that I have ever done in high school. After I confronted them they showed me and my friend’s respect. I got the strength to stand up against the bullies because of the benefits of Martial Arts.

Do you know how to prevent bullying?

Why It’s Bad Advice?

My Sensei in karate told me it’s one of the worse things that you can do. The bully knows that he or she can keep picking on you and you are not going to do anything about it. It will keep continuing, sure they bullies might get suspended but that just a break from school for them since they don’t really want to be at school.

Worse case if you get into a fight with a bully my Sensai told me is that you have at least 3 to 5 seconds before a teacher comes out and breaks up the fight. Then you will get suspended but that bully will never pick on you again if they are smart enough.

Now don’t get me wrong I not saying you should beat up the bully but if the bully attacks you. Defend yourself and stand your ground.

How To Stand Up To A Bully In School?

  • Tell the principal multiple times if you don’t get through to them the first three times. Being persistent can really help at times

  • Make sure all of your teachers know so they can monitor the bullies during class and before class

  • Seek advice from friends and family and ask them what they would do

  • Don’t be afraid to ask your guidance counselors for advice as well, unless they are not that helpful

What Are The Best Comebacks To Say To A Bully?

What I am going to talk about next might seem really strange but when you dealing with a bully you got to keep your options open. Here are some comebacks that you may want to try next time when dealing with a bully.

  1. I know what you are but what am I? - This is a very immature comeback, but if a bully is just arguing back you might as well use their arguments back at them.

  2. Yeah, I totally agree - Sometimes just nod your head and agree because if you do that sometimes bullies might think you are weird for agreeing with everything that they are saying.

  3. Do you have anything new to say because we already been over this? - If you act bored and you don’t show any emotion the bullies might get bored of picking on you.

  4. Thank them - Depending on what they are saying to you or calling you, just thank them. You are probably thinking “why should I thank a bully?” Let’s pretend if they told you that you have a big head. Thank them and say thanks for noticing the reason why I have a big head is that I have a big brain. I bet they will be speechless.

How To Tell If Somone Is A Bully?

  • They make a habit of calling people names

  • Constantly picking on others

  • They may curse someone out

  • They throw someone up against a wall or lockers

  • Shove people out of the way

  • They travel in groups of tough looking people behind them

  • They don’t care about anyone feelings

  • They think they can do anything that they want

Am I A Bully?

Perhaps you might be questioning yourself while you read this article about bullying and you are wondering to yourself “am I a bully?” If you answer yes to any of these questions then maybe you might be one of them. But remember we are humans and we make mistakes and we all get angry every now and then. Just to don’t make it a habit to pick on others because you are in a bad mood.

  1. Do I pick on others in a non-joking way?

  2. Do I call people names?

  3. Do I use foul jesters?

  4. Do I curse at people?

  5. Do I throw things that don’t belong to me?

How To Stand Up To A Bully?

  • Take karate classes to build confidence

  • Look the bully in the eye without backing down

  • Report them to HR at work or the principal at school

  • Get them expelled from school or get them fired from their job

  • Don’t let what they say to you bother you. If you do you are letting them win.

  • Seek help and guidance from friends, family, and Sensei

  • Doing nothing is not an option

If You See Someone Getting Bullied

If you are in school or at work and you see someone get bullied. Don't just continue walking on your married way. Go over to the bullies and tell them to get lost.

I bet the person who was getting picked on will be ever so grateful to you and thank you. Bullying is wrong and it's time for it to go.
