Andrea Johnson and Jimmy Clare explore values-based leadership, clear communication, and practical ways to lead with more authenticity and less burnout.

# Magnetic Leadership: Own Your Values and Lead with Intention with Andrea Johnson

Leadership does not have to mean being the loudest person in the room, following someone else’s script, or pushing through burnout to prove your value. In this conversation, Jimmy Clare speaks with Andrea Johnson, The Intentional Optimist, about understanding your values, communicating with purpose, and leading in a way that feels authentic.

This video is for people who feel stuck, overlooked, or pressured to fit a leadership style that does not match their strengths. It offers a calmer perspective: effective leadership can grow from self-awareness, clarity, consistency, and respect for your own capacity.

## What Magnetic Leadership Means

Magnetic leadership is not about being perfect or controlling other people. It is about becoming clearer about what you stand for and allowing that clarity to guide your decisions, communication, and relationships. When your actions match your values, people are more likely to understand what they can expect from you.

## Start With Your Values

Values are the principles that help you decide what matters. They can include honesty, fairness, creativity, reliability, inclusion, learning, service, courage, calm, or community. Knowing your values can make decisions easier when you are under pressure or unsure how to respond.

A simple practice is to choose three values that matter most right now and ask: “What would this value look like in one small action today?” For example, if clarity matters, you might write a more direct message. If inclusion matters, you might make room for another person’s perspective.

## Lead Without Becoming Someone Else

Leadership can look different for different people. You may lead through thoughtful questions, dependable follow-through, creative problem-solving, clear boundaries, mentoring, advocacy, or making a team process easier to understand. Autistic and neurodivergent people can bring valuable perspectives to leadership, including deep focus, direct communication, pattern recognition, honesty, and attention to detail.

You do not need to mask your personality or copy a high-pressure leadership style to contribute meaningfully. The most sustainable approach is one that works with your communication style, sensory needs, energy, and strengths.

## Use Intentional Communication

Clear communication can reduce confusion and conflict. Before an important conversation, identify the purpose, the key point you want to share, and the next step you are requesting. Ask questions when you need clarity, and give others room to process or respond in their own way.

You can lead with statements such as:

- “Here is the goal I am working toward.”
- “Here is what I need to make this workable.”
- “Can we clarify the next step?”
- “I see a different option we could consider.”

## A Practical Leadership Check-In

At the end of a week, ask yourself:

1. Which action felt most aligned with my values?
2. Where did I feel pressured to act unlike myself?
3. What boundary, system, or conversation would make next week more sustainable?

Leadership is a practice. You can learn, adjust, and become more effective without treating every imperfect moment as failure.
