So without further ado, let me welcome my friend Bernadette, who's going to talk about
3:52
healthy living, healthy Halloween treats. Sorry. And I think we're going to, I'm also going to include some Halloween stories that I had
4:04
And no judgments here. But, and maybe I can even share some costumes that I did
4:12
I had years ago. I mean, I don't have them in front of me, but I do, I can enlighten you with them
4:21
So without further ado, Let's welcome, Bernadette. Hello! Hey, Brenda, how are you
4:28
Hi, I'm very well. I'm from Austria, and I'm totally thrilled about the topic
4:34
because we in Austria actually don't have like Halloween, Halloween. But when I was in Obear in America, we had Halloween
4:43
And this was crazy and I liked it. Yeah, so do I
4:49
So before we dive into the healthy treats, what should people look for when they're looking for healthy Halloween treats
5:00
Do they make some homemade ones or do they find stuff at a store
5:08
I brought a couple of treatments with me. and I was like, when you want to invite me, I was like, oh, in America, I'm not quite sure if you have it, but we in Austria, and I just give you a couple of different tips and maybe you can also find the treats in America as well. On one side, and I don't, let's make it in a different way. Imagine you are a child and you have Halloween and you are coming with your pillow and you just say, trick and treat
5:41
What do you expect when you're coming to a house? Is it actually always like treats like sugar and all the things
5:52
Or maybe you also can find something else, either something homemade or something, I don't know
6:02
And either what I suggest would be truly healthy. And I'm not quite sure if children like it, but you can use it fruits
6:11
make a fun out of it. You can make a face on it like what we know with the pumpkin
6:19
that we make a face on it or something like else, that it's a little bit more interesting for children
6:24
But what I see with my nieces, when you have tried food
6:31
they like it. They like it a lot. I have it here. I have dried food here
6:36
I don't know what you can see. Like these are dried strawberries orï¿
6:41
or dried bananas or something like this one. It's also easier to carry in your pillow
6:49
And there's other things, and I know that children truly like them
6:53
These are like nuts, different nuts, like a range of different nuts
6:58
And you also can make it either you can make out of all these healthy things
7:03
like a musli bars. I hope the English word is musli as well, I think, isn't it
7:09
Yeah. Yeah. Or you make a muffin out of it with organic nuts and all the things in there
7:17
Or you also can, and this is my top favorite, and finally because today I'm in Vienna
7:22
I found it in my favorite job as well. These are raw cacao beans
7:32
Children like it. Yes, they like it. And I pretty sure either on a trader or any other organic store in America Pretty sure you buy something like this one It sweet but there is no sugar in it nothing
7:51
And this is so interesting because you still have the chocolate taste
7:55
what we actually know, but it's not that sweet at all. And if you wanna take something else
8:02
homemade things are always easy to make sugar-free. Or you choose an alternative sugar
8:12
This is still a little bit more better. I don't know, the English word for a retreat
8:17
but there are different alternative sugar things, what you can use also for baking
8:24
And when you want to support children, choose wisely, even on Halloween
8:32
what do you want to give them? I remember when I was back then on the Halloween trip
8:38
and just get all my treats from all the houses. We had tons of chocolate, tons of sugar-loaded things, candies
8:50
And this was like I was hyper the whole day because, of course, I also want to have my own chocolate
8:57
Yes. And I was like, back that it was like kind of normal
9:01
But when I look on it like a nutrition trainer today, I was like, whoa, how can we eat all
9:08
the things. And I'm pretty sure everybody knows you don't want to stop with it till it's over
9:16
So we eat every single day something. And when you truly want to do something good for your kids
9:22
just give them dry fruits or dry veggies. They're really, really good. They're still sweet
9:30
Nutses, seeds, or even the raw, the chocolate beans and all the things
9:38
And these are small treats but still good treats. Or homemade cakes
9:43
Carrot cake is sweet. You don't even need any ice sugar or anything is on it
9:48
It's naturally sweet. And this is what you can support and nurture the children who are coming to you
9:55
And also, of course, yours. Well, I even got a few tips
10:00
I don't have any in front of me at the moment. I mean, because I ran out. Ooh
10:07
Shh. If anybody has ever gone to a GNC store, there's Quest bars
10:17
Some of them, some of them I don't really like, but a few of them I like, like the cookies and cream ones
10:25
I like. There's this chocolate raspberry one, I think, and a white chocolate raspberry one
10:33
It's really good. I had some other ones. And there was this, like this waffle one
10:45
but I didn't like this one. I mean, it was an actual waffle, but it was like
10:51
it's like some kind of honey syrup or something in it. And I didn't like it because it was so sticky
10:58
And it's like, yeah, time when I get this out of the package, I really don't want it anymore
11:04
And then, but. But I'm not saying they're like, they're sort of healthy
11:11
because it has protein in it. And but I mean, you got to watch for some of the mixture
11:19
additives in it and make sure that's not full sugar. But they're a pretty good alternative, in my opinion
11:27
when you're looking for something sweet where you're like, I don't want to eat candy, but I do want something at least
11:35
something sweet. And so it's still a pretty good choice for me anyway because sometimes I still have that
11:45
sweet tooth, but I don't want to, hey, you want to let me go eat two pieces of chocolate
11:53
I'm trying to, I've been staying away from chocolate since I got my teeth whitened years ago
11:58
I'm not spending 500. I'm not screwing up 500 dollars where the teeth work, sorry
12:04
No. There are other things. I'm pretty sure you also get in America, organic gummy bear. Do you know, gummi bears
12:13
Sweet things. Gummy bears and all the things? Yeah. There are already organic sugar-free ones, a way level, pretty sure also in America
12:22
And if you're looking for recipes, because a lot of people asking me for recipes, also for pumpkin muffins and older things, go to Pinterest
12:31
Pinterest have really, really good recipes and also with sugar-free and also maybe it's also
12:38
necessary for lacto-free or gluten-free because nowadays all those topics has to be also considered
12:45
and they are still good. There are still really, really good recipes there where you can nurture
12:52
the children and what also children are eating. And there are also veggies. What I found when I was in
13:00
America, we stop and shop, you could buy the small carrots for snacking and all the things
13:07
And that's something what they also, because they're yellow, like Halloween is in the orange
13:12
in the orange field. And this are small orange ones. And if you want to do, you can put on like a little phase or something like that
13:19
So maybe that for the children, it's more funnier. That's great. Well, do you have any Halloween stories you like to share
13:30
You know, all the bad stories now? It's so interesting because I loved in America Halloween
13:41
When all the houses are decorated and everything else, what you can also, the costumes and all the things
13:48
Back then, I love to be, you know, the witch. And also with the pumpkin, I had a weird hat on it
13:55
like the cat with the hat thing. And also all the other
14:00
all other friends and opier friends, we just liked it. And when we had all the treats, I had to fight with my boys
14:09
where I took care of in America to get treats. We are like fighting
14:13
And I'm like, I'm your, I'm your au pair. I get my part of it
14:18
We fight it together to get the treats. And I was like, I want to have them too
14:24
And it's so interesting in Austria, it becomes more and more common
14:28
of course that's not so huge than in America but you see more and more like pumpkins
14:34
pumpkins cut out and there is also the light in there different ones and also you get some kind of costumes
14:42
because we have like kind of Halloween more in February in the Fashing time where everybody is dressed up
14:51
and there's still Halloween is coming to us And I truly missed the time because when we, when we back then went out and everybody was in costumes
15:03
there were so cool costumes to children had. And also when, like when you wear trick and treat and when when you didn't, when you didn't got any treat
15:15
then they were really, really weird tricks are coming up. And I was like, this is so interesting
15:21
I just like it. And the whole the whole weird very nice weather back then and when you see all the lights it just beautiful I just like it But we don have so much Halloween here So my weirdest Halloween I only had truly in America
15:36
Well, for me, my neighborhood, we had a lot of different Halloween parties
15:44
And, but I remember if, like, we always, each house, they always had some kind of
15:53
there is I think each year each one got scarier and scary each and every single year
16:00
I didn't know if that was possible but like I know from my house I think like we used to send decorations year and year out but there was other people in the neighborhood where they just like they went the full extra mile and they're like we're going to do some I don't know some creepy smoke
16:23
and we're gonna, like, I don't know, some creepy hand in the bowl
16:30
And finger food or like finger food? And so, but one of the things I, when I was living in New Jersey when I was growing up
16:42
if I moved to Pennsylvania, I used to use just a bag to get candy
16:48
Well, when back in, when I moved to Pennsylvania, one of my friends taught me is like
16:53
you know how to get more candy in a bag and it's like how he's like use a pillowcase and so i
17:00
started using pillowcases and like a very old pillowcase and i had um it's like this high full of
17:08
candy and i was like i don't think i ever want to eat a piece of candy again because i got
17:16
so full of candy and everything and uh You know, I think, and then like later on in the year, over the years, we stayed out late
17:31
We went to houses. And one of my, me and my friends, we used to, you know, like some of those houses that says leave one
17:44
Or I mean, take one piece of candy and that's it. Well, we never liked the sign
17:50
So we just took the, we moved the sign and just dumped the rest of the. candy in our bags, splitting up the months of the three or four of us that were there
18:01
And I was like, I know looking back at it is now, it's not the best thing to do and it wasn't
18:08
polite, but we just wanted all the candy. But let's face it, who takes only one candy
18:18
Huh? No, we neither. Exactly. Take one? What? Well, I'm doing them a favorite
18:28
They don't want the candy. They don't want leftover candy, so. So who comes first and who gets all the candies thing
18:36
Exactly. Who takes one candy? But, I mean, when I was going out to trick-or-treating
18:47
I used to dress up as a vampire. Or I used to dress up as a vampire
18:51
I used to dress up as the grim reaper. I'm not sure why
18:57
Okay. That's what I like the most. There are so many cool costumes
19:03
that what you can find in America for Halloween. And I always like the witch, but sometimes
19:10
I have to come back to America only because of Halloween, only to dress up and just be spooky a little bit
19:18
and get the treats and fight with the children to get the treats
19:23
And I'm, yeah, once a year, just only for Halloween coming to America and fight with the children
19:29
for the treatments, for the treats. Oh, I think one of the costumes I had, there was this mess that had this, like, heart filled
19:41
this fake blood, and so when he squeezed it, the blood was just dripping down space
19:48
That's not as creepy as, but there's this one. mask that my brother used to have. Oh, it was the creepiest mask ever. It was like an evil clown mask
19:59
And I was like, oh, geez, this thing makes the Chucky doll look nicer and much sweeter. This thing is just evil-ish-looking
20:11
It looked, oh, it looks. Sometimes it still gives me nightmares just thinking about my head because I can, my brain is like literally
20:20
can we play different scenes in the back of my mind when I'm sleeping
20:27
And I was like, and sometimes that mask comes into view. It's like, oh, I remember if I'm like
20:34
it had like hair out of sideways here and a crooked cap
20:39
and a smile. Not even smile, just like a evil grin and everything
20:46
Nah. I hate it. Do you have in America now, like, what's in for Halloween this year
20:57
I'm not even sure. I haven't even seen any Halloween commercials on TV, which is strange
21:01
Oh, that's truly strange. How come? Don't tell me because of COVID-19
21:08
Don't tell me because of that. I don't know what it is
21:12
It's like, like, at Star Party City, I don't even know. none of it still exists
21:21
I was like, I used to see so many commercials on TV as I get ready for Halloween and everything
21:28
I don't think I've seen one commercial. Sure, I didn't really watch TV much during the day
21:33
or I didn't even watch TV during the day or at night anymore except for the weekends
21:39
but even still I thought maybe, okay, even when my parents are watching TV
21:45
I think wouldn't there be some kind of Halloween commercial on this TV somewhere, but I haven't seen anything
21:52
And my parents, they used to get like a lot of flyers from a bunch of different stores
22:01
Not even anything Halloweenish either. What, did we just skip over Halloween now
22:07
I see all these Christmas decorations out already. Come on. What happened to Thanksgiving and Halloween
22:15
Yes. We're just going to skip holidays. or we will see it
22:20
We will see this year we have Halloween on a Sunday. So we will see definitely what will come up
22:26
and what will be in. But again, it's truly take tried food
22:33
Children truly love it. Or veggies or also fruits, nutses. Or my favorite, truly favorite
22:42
is the cacao bean, cocoa bean, or even or even the biological or organic gummy beer
22:52
And yes, you can make them on your own, but I'm pretty sure that you have in America's stores
22:57
We also can buy it. I'll definitely have to take a look to find them
23:01
because I'm always looking for my health and I always looking for ideas And I appreciate that you could do this special Halloween episode with us because hey
23:19
Halloween comes once a year. Yes. And I definitely have to come to America only because of Halloween one day
23:27
I can just picture you come around a plane like every single year just come just for candy
23:33
Yes. And also dressed up already like Ellen or something like that
23:37
I want to have a Halloween in America. Or the creepy clown mask
23:43
No, that's not, that's not mine. More witch. We're coming with with the brush
23:52
Are you sure? I don't think I even have that mask anymore, but
23:59
Hopefully not. Just get him another one. Wear yourself. If I do, I'm burning it
24:07
I think I think it's got people for life Jimmy I'm looking forward
24:15
for this year for your Halloween costume you have to share it on social media
24:19
I don't think I'm going to have a custom this year because I don't
24:25
because I'm moving what about just celebrate before that's a little bit
24:33
that's boring before it's boring afterwards it's like Yeah. We have to wait for Christmas to get dressed again
24:42
Chica just get dressed up for Thanksgiving. Yeah, for Thanksgiving, exactly. Big turkey
24:49
