I haven’t always eaten healthy when I was growing up. I used to eat a lot of junk food which caused me to get a rash of pimples. Today I want to talk about what is a balanced diet and why is it important? Then I am going to talk to you about what you should eat and not eat during your meals.
What Is A Balanced Diet And What Does It Include?
In my opinion a balanced diet is when you eat foods from all the different food groups. This includes fruits, veggies, proteins, carbohydrates, dairy, and fats.
It also means that you don’t just eat one particular food group and that’s it. You need a variety of foods to get all the vitamins and minerals from those food groups.
Why Is Nutrition Important?
According to Medical News Today nutrition is important because “nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses nutrients, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease.” I also think nutrition is important because it can help educate us what exactly is in our processed foods.
What Are The Benefits Of A Balanced Diet?
According to LiveStrong they list the benefits of a balanced diet which include:
Immune System Health
Those seem to be a very small list of benefits so I am going to add to that list. Now I am no doctor or scientist and I am just going to base it from my opinion. I don’t have any research behind this added on this, just my experience.
The List Of Benefits That I Experienced When I First Started Eating A Balanced Diet
Less oily skin
Less stomach bloat
Less upset stomachs
Improved sleep quality
Less stomach aches and cramps
Opened up a whole new variety of foods to me like (salads, veggies, etc).

What Are Some Healthy Breakfast Ideas?

What do I have for breakfast? I just have a Shakeology shake because it’s a nice easy thing to make so I can just go downstairs in the basement. I also have one for lunch as well. The shake is amazing when you add frozen fruits and veggies in. Which also helps you stay fuller longer.
Foods That You Should Avoid At Breakfast Time
Cereal - has too many ingredients in each box, some have more sugar than others.
Bread/toast - not all bread is created equal. Just like cereal they can have a big ingredient list or too much sugar. I would just stay away from bread.
What Are Some Healthy Lunch Ideas?
Panera bread salads
Grilled Fish - not too much tuna because the mercury
Grilled Steak - get lean cuts of meat like filet mignon or a strip steak
Foods That You Should Avoid At Lunch Time
You should never eat lunch meat any time. Let me tell you why they are filled with preservatives that include nitrates, nitrites, and a lot of sodium. Does that sound healthy enough to put in your body?
In my opinion, not many people know about that stuff in lunch meat. It’s not like public school has a class about nutrition. I learned this during one of my college semesters, and I was shocked.
What Are Some Healthy Dinner Ideas?
What Are Some Foods You Should Avoid For Dinner?
I would suggest avoiding pork since it’s not a lean kind of meat. Some nutritionist call pork “the other kind of chicken.” Meaning some think that pork is just as healthy as chicken. In my opinion I don’t buy it so I tend to stay away from it.
However, if someone has evidence that would prove me wrong than I am willing to update this post. Until then I am sticking to my gut feeling like agent Gibbs on NCIS.
What Are Some Healthy Afternoon Snack Ideas?
